Speaker and Topic
Antonie Rietzschel is an award-winning journalist and an Eastern German insider. She grew up in Sächsischen Schweiz, a region where extreme political views are not a new phenomenon. Antonie studied political science in Bremen and worked for Süddeutesche Zeitung, der Spiegel Online and other media, covering German political scene, mainly from Berlin. In 2017 she returned to Leipzig to follow closely the rise of the AfD and other far and extreme right groups. She has been investigating the far-right political developments for almost a decade.
Ten days before the elections in Austria, where polls indicate that the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) may obtain up to 30%, we have invited Antonie to share her analyses and observations related to the AfD rise and success, and explore the impact of the far-right electoral success on the media.
