During the extraordinary four years (2017-2021) in Hong Kong as the bureau head of BBC World Service, Ms Wu led BBC Chinese multi-media editorial output and produce for comprehensive range of wider bilingual BBC platforms and oversaw the management of BBC World Service Hong Kong Bureau while providing support for the regional and global languages services.
With over 18 years of experience in both Chinese and English media world, sha has also reported for the CCTV, South China Morning Post, the Initium Media, the Portrait Magazine and other outlets.
Starting from TV studio and then the newspaper industry, she has witnessed the digitalization of the entire media industry; worked with and led teams in newspapers, magazines, online streaming, social media lab, and digital media analysis and marketing.
During the gap years between media posts, Vivian taught and wrote about China politics, global media regulations, political transformation and social changes of totalitarian regimes on different academic stages and international platforms. During 2009-2015, Vivian was a media consultant, working with Internews, the UN and other international organizations, and developed several global digital media projects aimed at enhancing local media capacity and civil society formations.
In 2010, she founded Yi De Vision; an independent international media think tank based in Beijing. Their clients included UN organizations, embassies, public and private corporations, and high-tech companies.
Currently Wu is starting her own digital media studio Axial Vibe ( Hong Kong -New York) that focuses on building and enriching a vertical community of global citizens through vigorous production of original documentaries, innovative social media content, and in-depth media analysis and features for the big screens and digital platforms.
Originally from Lanzhou, Gansu Province, People's Republic of China, Vivian Wu holds a BA in English and Literature from the Renmin University of China; MA in International Communication from the Beijing University and an MA in Political Science from The New School (New York). In summer 2022, Vivian moved from Hong Kong to New York, to start her own media company.
