Peter Csonka, Specialised in international and European criminal law, Peter Csonka started his career as a prosecutor in Hungary in 1987 before working as a Legal officer for the Council of Europe in Strasbourg between 1991 and 2002. In 2002, he became Senior Counsel at the Legal Department of the International Monetary Fund in the United States. He joined the European Commission as Head of the Criminal Justice Unit in 2005 and was seconded in 2010 to the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the European Union to act as Coordinator for Justice and Home Affairs. Back in the Directorate General Justice and Consumers of the European Commission in 2011, he was appointed as the Advisor on European Public Prosecutor’s Office. Since 2016, he is Head of General Criminal Law and Judicial Training in DG Justice.
Peter Csonka is a visiting professor at the “Europa Institute” in Saarbrucken (Germany) and at the Law School of the University of Luxembourg. He published many articles on European criminal law and human rights law. He is a member of the editorial board of the Revue Internationale de Droit Pénal and EUCRIM.
